The Incident

You can tell a lot about a book by its cover, but even more, from the copy on the flap. Here are both from this psychological thriller.

Something about her company's new CEO, Karl Becker, makes Hannah Hart wary. When she interrupts Becker sexually violating a semi-conscious co-worker, Hannah's instincts are proven right. Enraged by his lies and payoff to quiet his victim, Hannah delves into his private life. She lands in the middle of an investigation into a series of prostitute murders now spanning several years. When she sees Becker among onlookers at the latest crime scene, Hannah's suspicions shift into high gear. She goes to great lengths and risk to determine if he was involved and uncovers enough to share with Mike Gavin, the detective charged with solving the case. He is skeptical of Hannah’s motivation, but struggling for leads, he looks into Becker’s past. When his wife, Sarah Becker, makes her own disturbing discoveries, the fears and expectations of all collide.

The book is very well written and kept my interest all the while I was reading it. I wanted to keep reading it at one sitting until I reached the end. I was disappointed when it ended-wanted to know what happened after that.

Ms. Clark has written a fast-paced and fascinating look inside corporate America and the relationships between men and women at the highest levels. At the same time the reader is taken to the darker side of of what can happen when power perverts those who have it - or are perverted to begin with and use their power to get what they want. What sets this story apart is how things can be far worse than one would first imagine and yet all fit together into a very real and powerful, yet disturbing, ending. I certainly look forward to seeing more from JC Clark

The story felt believable. It was a page turner. There wasn’t a lot of downtime, most of it was necessary for the plot and character building. The prose was well conceived and really encouraged visualization
